Mushrooms in back yard?

Hi i found a pack of mushrooms growing in the mulch in one of our flower beds and I was wondering if they are edible. They have kind of a rippled top which curves downward with chocolate brown gills and a white stem. The cap is light brown with some white spots

No they are not safe. Mushrooms grow in any woodsy medium. The compost must have a lot of peat material in it. Heck they even grow in my horses dong. I'm not going to eat those either. I live in Oregon and mushrooms grow on dead trees in the woods some are safe and most are poisionous. If your not an expert in mushrooms then it's way safer to treat any mushroom you see growing any where as poisionous. Every year in spring we always hear about people going to the woods to pick mushrooms and they take them home thinking they are safe and eat them. By the next day they end up on the evening news lying half dead in a hospital going thru dialisis waiting for a kidney transplant. One year a whole family died using the mushrooms they picked in a meal for dinner. Reminds me of a scene from a Tom Selneck movie, he was an author of detective novels. "Her Allabye". The whole family and friends dining together realized that the cat died after someone fed it a bowl of meat before the table was set. Later after finished with dinner the cat was found dead on the kitchen floor. BLA, BLA!

The whole crew rushed outside from the table and tried to loose their dinner over the porch railing. Later they all ended up at the hospital with their stomachs pumped. If you saw the movie you would know that it wasn't the meat that killed the cat. Their neighbor actually brought it back dead and left it in the kitchen. No mushrooms in this one.

So the morale of the story is please do not eat any mushrooms unless you have purchased them at the grocery store.

Reply:You could be describing any number of poisonous species. Kill them, because it is likely that they are toxic and very harmful.
Reply:Too many mushrooms can kill you or make you very sick. Leave them where they are.
